The traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) prepares the graduate for eligibility to obtain licensure as a registered nurse. The program consists of five semesters for a total of 60 semester credit hours (SCH) to combine with 60 SCH transferred pre-requisite courses for a total of 120 SCH to award the BSN. The curriculum includes both didactic and clinical content in medical-surgical care, geriatric, maternal/child, pediatric, and psychiatric nursing in community based and acute care settings, as well as end of life care and leadership.
Traditional BSN Qualifications to Apply:
- Transfer all 42 SCH of Texas Core Curriculum requirements as listed below prior to course attendance at HSC.

- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required. All grades earned at all schools attended will be calculated in the admission grade point average. A grade of C or better are required in all prerequisite courses.
- A minimum 40 SCH of the 60 SCH prerequisite total must be completed prior to applying for admissions including the Anatomy and Physiology sequence, Microbiology, Guided Elective, and Nutrition. All prerequisites must be completed by time of enrollment.
- A minimum score of 60 on the Test of Essential Academic Skills or Health Education Systems Incorporated Admission Assessment A2 (TEAS/HESI). Score of 70 in each category are considered competitive.
