Since I first stepped onto the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth in 2020, I have been invigorated by an extraordinary energy unique to our campus. This energy stems not only from the commitment of our faculty and staff to transform healthcare but also from the personal dedication our students demonstrate by choosing to further their education at HSC.
At HSC, the opportunities to contribute to a healthier community are limitless, whether through community service, joining student organizations, or engaging in research. With over 100 registered student organizations, there are numerous ways to get involved and make a difference. We believe creating a healthier community is a shared responsibility that extends beyond doctors, physician assistants, and physical therapists to include public health professionals, researchers, and scientists.
During your time at HSC, you may gain invaluable hands-on experience in our Regional Simulation Center, which features 360-degree virtual reality and a simulation apartment for practicing home health care. Our Institute for Health Disparities is dedicated to advancing the careers of those in biomedical sciences and health professions, offering training programs specifically designed for underrepresented students in these fields.
Research is a cornerstone of our mission at HSC. Each year, our faculty, staff, and students participate in Research Appreciation Day to showcase their remarkable work, much of which is later published. Our Tier 1 Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) is the only medical school in the nation that mandates a patient safety course as part of its degree requirements.
We believe in the importance of serving others and being active in our communities. Many of our programs require students to complete community service hours to graduate, emphasizing that you cannot make a difference by staying confined to a lab, clinic, or desk.
Our Whole Health Initiative, still in its early stages, promises to transform every aspect of HSC. This initiative empowers individuals to discover, receive, and participate in holistic care for their body, mind, spirit, and environment within and through their communities. As future healthcare professionals, adopting a holistic approach to patient care is essential.
Students are at the heart of everything we do at HSC. I am thrilled that you have chosen this incredible institution to continue your education. Welcome to HSC!
Warm regards,
Dr. Sylvia Trent-Adams
