NURS 5340 Professional Roles and Responsibilities in the Correctional Environment


3 SCH. This course provides an in-depth exploration of the unique challenges, ethical considerations, and specialized skills required in correctional nursing practice. Students will examine the roles of nursing professionals within correctional facilities and the legal and ethical frameworks that govern their practice. The course emphasizes effective communication, professional boundaries, the promotion of patient rights and dignity, and the nursing scope of practice within the correctional setting. Through case studies and practical scenarios, students will develop the knowledge and competencies necessary to navigate the complexities of correctional healthcare and promote optimal outcomes for incarcerated individuals while maintaining safe and professional boundaries.
