NURS 4104 Nursing Care Distinctive to School Health

1 SCH. This course will introduce the role of a school nurse, services provided within a school setting, education and training needed for this specialized nursing practice The concepts of health prevention and early intervention, and the benefit of school-level screening to whole health outcomes will be explored. Additionally, students will become familiar with drivers of school-based protocols, emergency preparedness, legal and ethical dilemmas, and scope of practice. Special attention will be given to communication, collaboration, coordination of care, family as team, and advocacy.
