MPAS 5295 Geriatrics


2 SCH. This course presents common conditions encountered in the geriatric population from a primary care perspective. The course focuses on diagnosis, differential diagnosis, patient evaluation, and patient management. Students learn the relevant epidemiology, demographics, risk factors, pathophysiology, expected history and physical examination findings, diagnostic laboratory and imaging studies, treatments, and monitoring as it pertains to the geriatric population. An emphasis will be placed on patient education, health promotion, disease prevention, and screening guidelines. Learning activities and assessments may include, but are not limited to, lectures, labs, case studies, self-directed study, small group activities, individual activities, and written and/or lab examinations/quizzes.
