PHED 5330 Foundations of Public Health

3 SCH. This course provides an introduction to the field of public health. The course examines the history, philosophy, values, core functions, and essential services of the field. Attention is given to scientific methods used to describe and assess a population’s health, health promotion and disease prevention strategies, and the use of evidence in advancing public health knowledge. The many determinants of population health are reviewed, including the effects of globalization.
