The state of Texas leads the U.S. in the number of refugees and has an extensive range of border health problems which represent a significant array of global health issues. This certificate not only address local global health concerns, but also the international topics involving the political economy of health, environmental issues, community health, veterinary and zoonotic health, and international disease epidemiology.

Who Should Attend?

This certificate is designed for public health professionals to improve their global focus, including industrialized rather than only developing or underdeveloped countries. The coursework includes emerging issues related to the globalization of health, including climate change, immigration, global epidemics; social injustice, ease of travel in the world, porous borders, and the international nature of health care. Upon completion of the Certificate, students earning a grade of B or better in each course who are admitted to the MPH program may apply all fifteen credit hours to their degree.

Under an inter-professional education arrangement, clinical students in the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Physician’s Assistant program, and the Doctor of Pharmacy program are eligible to complete this certificate by completing the five required courses (instead of electives) as listed below.
