MPAS 5304 Introduction of Pharmacology


3 SCH. This course introduces principles of pharmacology to develop understanding and application of effective and safe therapeutic regimens for patients. Students will learn basic principles of pharmacology, including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and biotransformation. These basic components are applied to the understanding of commonly prescribed drugs and/or drug classes, including their therapeutic application, mechanisms of action, contraindications, adverse effects, and drug interactions. An integral part of the course is writing prescriptions and dosage calculations. Learning activities and assessments may include, but are not limited to, lectures, small groups, written assignments, individual activities, and written examinations/quizzes.
