BIOS 5318 Data Mining and Machine Learning 3 SCH. As data science and big data increase in presence as a field, machine learning is a key tool for these fields. This course aims to allow students to use and understand primary approaches to machine learning to modify for specific applications. This course builds on data management and statistical programming skills learned previously. The course materials will introduce computational methods in statistics with emphasis on the use of statistical software packages. By the end of the course students will be able to manage real datasets, write their own functions, perform statistical analysis, make statistical graphics and conduct Monte Carlo simulations, among other applications. Students engage in hands-on programming exercises to implement fundamental algorithms. Prerequisite: BIOS 5300 Offered Sprin Letter Grade
