Accreditation
The UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth (HSC Fort Worth) is approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and is a member of the Alliance for Higher Education, the Association of Academic Health Centers, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, and the Council of Graduate Schools.
The HSC at Fort Worth is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, masters, and doctorate degrees. HSC at Fort Worth also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) is accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), which is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of colleges preparing osteopathic physicians. TCOM is also approved by the Texas Medical Board and is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.
The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation-Continued status to the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth Physician Assistant Program sponsored by the University of North Texas Health Science Center. Accreditation-Continued is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the ARC-PA Standards.
Accreditation remains in effect until the program closes or withdraws from accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn for failure to comply with the Standards. The approximate date for the next validation review of the program by the ARC-PA will be September 2024. The review date is contingent upon continued compliance with the Accreditation Standards and ARC-PA policy. Forty-eight states and The District of Columbia Physician Assistant and/or Medical Licensure Boards recognize the Masters of Physician Assistant Studies Degree from an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited physician assistant program as fulfilling the academic requirements for PA licensure. Minnesota and North Dakota do not require the degree, but do require passage of the PA National Certification Examination (PANCE) produced by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Applicants must graduate from an ARC-PA approved PA program to be eligible to take the PANCE. The ARC-PA, maintains national accreditation standards for physician assistant programs. The HSC at Fort Worth’s PA program is ARC-PA accredited and program graduates are eligible to take the PA National Certification Examination after successfully completing the program.
The College of Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). CEPH is an independent agency recognized by the US Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and public health programs offered in settings other than schools of public health. The Council’s focus is the improvement of health through the assurance of professional personnel who are able to identify, prevent, and solve community health problems.
The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth’s College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, 190 South LaSalle Street, Suite 2850, Chicago, IL 60603-3499, Phone 312/644-3575; Fax 866/228-2631, web site www.acpe-accredit.org.
The baccalaureate degree in nursing and the master’s degree in Nursing at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth is pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (www.ccneaccreditation.org). Applying for accreditation does not guarantee that accreditation will be granted.
