AME Mission Statement
The Academy of Medical Educators (AME) consists of faculty with demonstrated enthusiasm for and accomplishments in medical education. The Academy’s mission is to promote the educational skills of the faculty, education oriented scholarly work, curriculum development, program evaluation, mentoring, and the development, and recognition of educational leaders.
AME Program Objectives
- Support faculty
- Implement a learning sciences-based approach to educating TCOM students
- Acquire declarative knowledge and develop procedural knowledge sufficient to advance their careers as clinicians/educators
- Develop education-oriented research and scholarly capabilities
AME Activities and Topics
- Formal learning sciences based coursework in higher education
- Medical education journal club discussions
- Training focusing on implementation of TCOM’s Problem- and Task-focused, Application-oriented Curriculum
- Training and discussions focusing on research and other scholarly activities leading to the creation of abstracts and manuscript for publication
Admission Policy
Admission into the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (HSC) Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) AME is determined in the following manner:
- The TCOM Dean and the faculty member’s cognizant Chair must agree that the faculty member will represent the faculty member’s department as a member of the AME.
- The faculty member’s subsequent appointment to the AME is predicated upon the assumption that the faculty member in question has also expressed an interest in, and/or is willing to serve as an AME member.
- An advanced degree is required. (DO, Masters, PhD, etc.)
- AME members who wish to receive course credit must submit the following:
- Completed application
- Official transcript(s) from the institution in which the highest degree was earned
