MIMG 6305 Molecular Population Genetics

2 SCH. This course will build off the foundational material introduced in the BMSC 6203 course and familiarize you with the evaluation and characterization of the genetic architecture of populations and how this changes over time. We will discuss the processes of molecular change within genomes and how the distribution of genetic diversity is affected by intrinsic and extrinsic factors such as mutation, population substructure, inbreeding, migration, selection and random drift. The course will include computational analysis of genetic data involving these factors using open source software packages, minimal coding skills are expected.
Prerequisite: BMSC 6200, 6201, 6202, 6203 (required), MIMG 6201, 6202 (suggested)
